In September, 1992, Waldock Publishing Ltd. launched Canada's first
Canadian-owned and controlled national trade book wholesaler offering:

THE PRINCIPALS IN NORTH 49 BOOKS ARE:
Peter J. Waldock has been in the book wholesaling business since
1987. Previous to that he was Executive Vice-President of McClelland
& Stewart, reporting to the owner, Jack McClelland. He founded Penguin
Books Canada Limited in 1973 and ran it profitably for the following
10 years during which time he initiated its Canadian publishing program,
publishing such well-known authors as Robertson Davies, Alice Munro,
Timothy Findley, Mordecai Richler and Carol Shields. He is a past President
of the Canadian Book Publishers' Council, was awarded 'Publisher of
the Year' by the Canadian Booksellers' Association and was the founding
President of the Canadian Telebook Agency. He was on the faculty of
the Banff Publishing Workshop for 14 years and served as their Program
Director from 1989 to 1994. He has been President of the Canadian Association
of Book Wholesalers since 1998, when the association was founded. He
is also Chairman of BookNet Canada, an industry organization that is
dedicated to improvements in the supply chain for books and has been
since the inception of the organization in 2002.
Diane Waldock has been in the book wholesaling business since
1990. She also owns Hughes Marketing, an order fulfillment firm that
specializes in books. Since 1983 she has worked with major magazines,
newspapers and book publishers on direct marketing programs. She was
previously Director of Marketing at CIRPA, a Canadian record industry
group, where she promoted and sold an electronic ordering system for
audio. Prior to that she was Director of Marketing at Penguin Books
Canada Limited and was also responsible for editorial and design aspects
of the award-winning Canadian publishing program. She served on the
faculty of the Banff Publishing Workshop for seven years. She is responsible
for marketing at North 49 Books, among other things, and is in charge
of the company's publishing program, Polar Bear Press.
